Playing with light

So, being back home means that I have been reading a lot of Deon Meyer (and being scared to death afterward), catching up on Sarie magazine, watching Friends and having few photo opportunities.  Or let me put it this way, few opportunities where I get to take pictures of people.

 

I saw an article in Pix magazine a few months ago about whatever they call this thing I did below (lemme know if you know?)  I borrowed that particular edition from a friend, so Ican’t check it up.  The setup is pretty cool and very easy.  You take white material, stretch it over an openening.  Then you shine light on objects thorugh the material.  You can then mix and match colours by putting cellophane over the white material.  Ok whatever, if this doens’t make sense, send me a mail and I’ll explain it more eloquently and send you a picture or something

Peartree

I’m back at home, so I’m taking more still life pictures, because my family all run away when I come anywhere close to them with a camera.

Simone Shoot

Simone is an awesome german chick studying with me at the moment (future teachers unite ). Being a very spirit-filled Christian, one of the ways I got her to smile is by saying: ‘ok, think of Jesus’, which worked instantly and was insanely funny. The shoot was in Jonkershoek and when Simone saw some horses she immediately wanted pictures with them.

A friend of mine, Bea, keeps on saying that my blog is a ‘couples blog’ with way too many pictures of couples in it. So I dedicate this shoot with wonderful, 4-language speaking, German, bicycle loving Simone in it to all single people out there.

Metanoia HK

I spent most of  Sunday taking pictures of Metanoia’s HK and mentors for 2010. It turned out to be a (very windy) day full of a fantastically diverse group of people who I wish I could get to know better. Here are some of the HK pics.

Anel & Nelius (engaged)

I’ve known Anel and Nelius for ages. Ok, only almost 4 years. Anel has been in res with me since the beginning and she is probably one of the main reasons that I passed my BComm degree. In first year when everything seemed vague and I just wanted to switch courses, she spent hours and hours explaining concepts to me.
Nelius has always been by her side. They’re a wonderful couple who’ve always inspired me.

Anelle wanted to do something special for her boyfriend for his birthday by giving him some pictures of herself.
Anelle is a fiery redhead who lives in res with me. Being a redhead I’m always happy to see redheads being that beautiful. Red die rooikop!

 

G-SPot BMX, Stellenbosch

If you’ve known me for longer than a day you’d probably find out that I don’t like bicycles. I dispise them. After an unfortunate episode in my first year where a security guard rode into me the passive indifference I had before never quite returned.
With this at the back of my mind I went to take some pics of BMX downhill cyclists at a place they call the G-spot. This is definately one of the hidden secrets of Stellenbosch. It’s a beautiful place. So this was step 1 of facing your fears: having people charge down at you at tremendous speeds. Good fun in the end
